Dunbabin Park is probably the best kept hiking secret on Salt Spring Island. This short, but magnificent rainforest trail is maintained by the Salt Spring Parks and Recreation Commission. (The Salt Spring Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) is associated with the Capital Regional District.)
Close to Ganges, the 0.8 km trail can be accessed by Starks or Robinson Roads. From Starks the trail drops in elevation down to a pond and stream. This first part of the trail is straight and boring, but don’t let that put you off. Once you reach the creek you are suddenly in a rainforest with small bridges and a wide array of plants and animals. And an ever-changing collection of small rock sculptures.
There’s a sense of solitude along the trail; in fact I’ve yet to encounter another visitor. Just want a 30 min walk in the woods (or more if you are curious)? This is the place. Great place for a rainy day walk too.

* In answer to questions about image #142:
The photo was taken during a heavy spring shower; the raindrops disturb the water surface and cause it to look frozen!
