I was lucky enough to be able to walk into the middle of this pre-calculus math class at Gulf Islands Secondary School. Groups of students were completely engaged on white boards around the room on tasks, or perhaps investigations (my calculus is beyond rusty), introduced at the beginning of class. The instructor floated around the room listening and asking questions. Learning and understanding were clearly the focus in the room.
No rows of desks, no instructor at the front of the room. Appropriate technology in use. Full engagement. Is this the real ‘New Math’?
