Liberty Bell and the Early Winter Spires at Washington Pass.
I hope you enjoyed a look at the North Cascades, within a day’s ferry and drive of Saltspring Island. After a break of several days, I’ll be back to making the occasional post once again.
Highway 20 climbs for seven miles to reach the Washington Pass summit. The road through this section of the Cascades is normally closed November through April due to avalanches.
There’s an incedible story of finding a route, and building a road through the pass. It’s on an information board at the lookout trail entrance.
The highway can be seen 700 feet below the lookout. Those two vehicles will soon be able to pass the b-train logging truck on the additional truck lane to the summit.
Unless you get out on the trails and away from pavement, there will be lots of reminders of civilization. For example, while taking the top photo I could clearly hear music coming from a motorcycle heading down the hill.
Just an observation. The lookout is incredible with easy access to mountain views in every direction.
