This is an interesting park with trails dedicated to pedestrians only (and dogs, leash optional), multi-use, and advanced bike use. The Puntledge River “joins the Tsolum River to form the Courtenay River, which enters the Strait of Georgia at the city of Courtenay” (Wikipedia).
The river tumbles through the park in a series of rapids and fish ladders. These photos were taken a couple of weeks ago when we felt the water was really moving. I heard today that the rocks (including those in the foreground) are now under water and a sign says the flow is approximately 19 times normal.
The park makes a great rest stop if you get tired of hurtling down the Inland Island Highway.
