GISPA is at it again. In their eleventh year-end, original performance, the group sets a black and white stage and a magical 1980’s night circus. While capturing a portrait of thirty-two performers—each in ten minutes—is surely challenging, the task pales when compared to the magic that these kids create on stage. Thanks to Stephanie for assisting with the shoot at GISS and Caitlyn for rounding up the performers!
Here’s the news release:
The Gulf Islands School of Performing Arts (GISPA) proudly presents The Night Circus. Adapted from Erin Morgenstern’s novel of the same name, The Night Circus upholds GISPA’s signature fusion of music, dance, and theatre with a dangerous, magical adventure uniquely interpreted by student artists. Featuring energetic choreography, composition and ensemble acting, The Night Circus is not to be missed.
Against a backdrop of a circus that only opens at night, two young people struggle against the confines of a forced, enigmatic competition, as the boy attempts to find his purpose through what they have built together.
These talented GISPA students have collectively created, composed, and choreographed The Night Circus under the direction of Bruce Smith (music), Sonia Langer (dance) and Jason Donaldson (theatre). Come along and experience this spellbinding tale of love, loss, and destiny.
The images have been printed for temporary display at ArtSpring June 10 and 11th during the show. The 8 x 12 inch prints (with the performers’ names) will then be trimmed to 8×10 for each of the performers to use.
note: GISPA and the performing arts at Gulf Islands Secondary is my sole business cause. Each year I donate approximately 10% of gross sales (service, materials and funds) to the programs.
